As we wrap up another Thanksgiving, we’re reminded of just how much we have to be grateful for here at LE3! Our families, our staff, and the wonderful children who fill our sites with joy every day. The spirit of gratitude continues right into December, making this the perfect time to teach kids what it truly means to give back.

The Holiday Season Is About Togetherness

November and December remind us that the most meaningful part of the holidays isn’t the food or the gifts, it’s the feeling of connection. It’s gathering with loved ones, supporting neighbors, and remembering that our actions, big or small, can make someone else’s season brighter!

Kids of all ages can learn this too, and they often take great pride in being part of something that helps others.

Ways Kids Can Give Back This Season

Here are simple, meaningful ways children can practice kindness, gratitude, and community giving during the holiday season:

1. Participate in a Food Drive

Our LE3 Holiday Food Drive runs through December 12, and donations can be dropped off at any LE3 site. Kids can help choose items at the store, learn why certain foods are needed, or help pack up donations. Even the smallest hands can make a big impact!

2. Make Cards or Artwork for Neighbors

A handmade picture or card can brighten someone’s day especially seniors, community members, or friends! It’s a fun, creative way to teach empathy.

3. Help With Household Kindness

For younger children, giving back can start right at home:

  • Cleaning up without being asked

  • Helping a sibling

  • Setting the table

  • Picking up toys

These small acts help them understand responsibility and gratitude.

4. Practice “Thankful Moments”

Encourage kids to name one thing they’re thankful for each day in December. It builds reflection and shows that gratitude exists beyond Thanksgiving.

5. Donate Toys, Books, or Winter Gear

If your family is able, have your child choose gently used items to donate. It teaches generosity and the value of sharing what we have.

6. Spread Kindness in the Community

Hold the door for someone, help carry groceries, or simply smile and say hello. Kids learn that kindness doesn’t have to cost anything, it just takes a moment!

Teaching Thankfulness All Year Long

Gratitude isn’t just a holiday idea, it’s a lifelong skill! When children understand why giving back matters, they develop compassion, responsibility, and a stronger connection to their community.

At LE3, we’re proud to help guide kids through experiences that build character and strengthen their understanding of what it means to care for others.

As we look ahead to December and all the joy it brings, we invite our families to join us in continuing the spirit of giving thanks not just for what we receive, but for what we can give!
